10 things I'm learning about kids/parenting...

Get a pen & paper ; )

1. Just because a baby/toddler starts taking their diaper off does not mean they're reading to start potty training!!! That is a straight up lie! Most of the time they're doing it just because they figured out how to do it, lol.

2. I've always been told 'A parent is a parent, not a friend'. Well, I guess this is true, but sometimes as your children get older especially, they might need you...as a friend. So be what they need at that time. It's doesn't take away from you being their parent at all.

3. There is no 'written in stone' age that a child has to stop taking a bottle or be potty trained. I could go on & on about this, but the easiest way to go, is to do it when you see that they're ready. If you introduce it and they freak out, maybe they're not ready. Keep trying, but don't force them. I think we just need to stop listening to society...or whoeverthehell says when our kids should stop or start doing whatever.

Every child is different! Proceed accordingly.

4. Kids are really funny. Especially when they're allowed to be themselves.

5. Letting kids be themselves, at any age I think, makes them more enjoyable to be around. Let them be unfiltered and totally comfortable around you!

6. You should 'partake' in things they like. My Miona LOVES music. I mean LOVES! And eventhough we don't always like the same music, I still listen to it with her because it's what SHE likes. When I was younger the only thing I could listen to was gospel. It sucked! So entertain your kids and the things they like.

7. Sometimes you have to ignore your kids. Seriously. When they're acting out or getting attitudes, don't pay them any attention. Especially when they want something!!! They'll learn their lesson quicker than if you had yelled at them.

8. Yelling doesn't work. My mom never yelled at me, but I have found myself getting a little loud with my kids in moments of frustration or extreme fatigue on more than one occasion. Just don't do it. It doesn't solve anything. And do you really want your kids to only respond to you when you yell at them??? I don't think so. Take a minute to gather your thoughts, and breathe. Then handle the situation accordingly. This might be a little harder with preteens/teenagers though, lol

9. Spend time with each of your kids alone. It really makes them feel special, and you learn a lot about them. Mason and I go to DQ or the toy store for our dates. M and I get frozen yogurt or listen to music for hours! Sooo much fun! Nia and I watch Tangled (her favorite right now), dance, or go for a drive.

10. When you have a bad day, they do too. So hide those damn feelings because whatever you're going through has nothing to do with them! Make the day fun and exciting for them, and you may even come out of your funk too.

I love my kids! I also love how much I'm learning from and about them, and myself. Have a great holiday!

Afternoon Everyone!

So...I have some rather sad news...this happened yesterday...

Yes, my beautiful hot pink frame split in two : (

I'm working on a replacement though. I have a frame that I used on our Christmas mantel here & here, and I think it's going to be gorgeous on our lonely white door. Here's a peek! I didn't feel like painting it pink, but I think the turquoise/lavender combo still looks really nice for Spring.

In bedside table news, lol...

Isn't this the cutest little vignette? I made this canvas art to hang, but I think I like it better just sitting behind other pretty things.

Girly Shelves

So my Nia loves these shelves in my bedroom...

no, I still have not painted them, smh

She stays in my jewelry, and she literally sits in front of them drooling to touch everything on it, lol. This is actually an old photo of it. It has lots more goodies on it now...you know, all those awesome things a vanity holds : ) So I figured I'd try to make her something similar, but on a smaller scale and much more 'Nia friendly'. So I bought a $22 bookshelf from Target, and this is what happened...

She totally stole my bag and stuffed her doll in it, lol. She drags it around the house so I guess it's actually her bag now, smh. I put clear sticky hooks on the side to hold her little purses. The large apothecary jar is from our wedding, and the smaller ones for bows & pacifiers are thrifted.

I got these baskets from Hobby Lobby AND they were half off : )

Everything else I had on hand!!! She also loves this picture of me & Kevin. It matched her decor so I threw that on there too. She plays with her blocks everyday, so they were a must!

She loves walking around the house in her tutu's, so I thought...why not have them on display?! I mean, they are really cute! I just screwed hooks under the top shelf and used plastic skirt hangers to hang them on. The hooks are soft so I don't have to worry about her hurting her hands. She really loves that she can reach them now.

She loves it, and I couldn't be happier!

Easy Letter Art & Decals

1. Foam letters from Hobby Lobby @ 40% off!!! They give it a '3D' effect

2. 1 sheet of card stock (I had some on hand)

3. Place the letters however you want them. Mine aren't all that straight, but Mason didn't notice, lol

4. $3 frame from Walmart...I did not use the glass! Mason likes that he can actually feel the letters.

I put it on his little entertainment center. It's perfect! And he loves 'teaching' them to me everyday, lol

And guess what else I found at Walmart?!?!?!

These decals! I love them! They were on clearance for like $5, so I got two. I ditched the 'athlete in training' decals that came with it and went to Hobby Lobby and got these paper mache letters. They were 30% off too!!! I thought about painting them, then realized they're perfect for his room just the way they are. I'll be sure to share the rest of his room very soon...as in when I get around to actually taking the pictures : )

This is Kenley's favorite chair, so I decided to put it in her room...but I think it needs to be spray painted the bronzy color of the hardware on her dresser...just so everything flows, you know?!

I found this cute basket at my favorite thrift store, and it is perfect as a hamper!

See...I really am almost done...REALLY, LOL. Can't wait for the reveal : )

I found this cute glittery clutch that is perfect for Miona's Ipad Mini! It's originally from Target, but I got it at a local thrift store for $4!!!

These $3 pink wire baskets are also from Target, and they have my cabinets looking so nicely organized! It's amazing what the ~~not so much a dollar~~ dollar section can do ; )

And this dreadful bathroom drawer...smh...

I used acrylic trays from Target to get it together. Although, husbands don't always let us be great in the organizing department, lol, so I don't know how long it'll look like this. They weren't on sale, but I only spent about $10.

I think Spring cleaning may be well under way... even though it's still like 20° here, SMH. Have a Wonderful Wednesday ; )

Happy Friday All! Hope you all have some exciting plans for the weekend...cause I sure don't, LOL. I'll be mile high in projects...I may not even leave the house honestly smh....well, maybe for ice cream ; ) Oh, and to go workout, LOL!!!

First I'll be covering this little number with black & white stripes. Here's a hint as to what I'm going to try : ) Her's look amazing by the way. I'm telling you...duct tape really does make the world go round, LOl

I found the best (and ugliest) ottoman for $25! Practically brand new! Since I was going to slip cover the love seat in our bedroom anyway, I'll slip cover this baby as well.

I also finally picked up some DUCT TAPE brand duct tape to finish my headboard wall, and it's adhering beautifully! Remember this??? Yeah, no more of those problems! Can you tell the babies and I had a pillow fight right before I took this picture???

How about fruit in a pretty unused pitcher? Mason's idea, lol, but I think I really like it! It would be really cute on a buffet vignette too!

Afternoon All! And Happy Happy Friday ; )

Sooo, I found a really nice shelving unit for cheap and it is 'becoming' my new vanity. I'm kind of in love with it so bear with me, lol.

It's been freezing here so painting it was out of the question...and just when I though 'Hey, I can just paint it in the bedroom!!!' Kevin says, 'I kind of like it how it is.' WTH? I don't think so, LOL. I think a nice coat of white would do the trick. I'll be painting it within the next week or so, but I've still been playing around with the styling in the meantime.

Of course, there's a little pink section ; )

The pink vase was Kevin's first Valentine's Day gift to me. I saw it about a week before and was carrying it around the store, but ended up not getting it for some reason. On V Day, he walked in carrying it and it was filled with chocolates. Filled! I love him : )

The wire basket is holding some of the cards Kevin has gotten me over the years. Super romantic, I know : ) I found the cutest little gravy boat at a thrift shop and it's perfect for a few of my bangles. I'm seriously in love with it!

I am in love with this old Watkins vanilla bottle I found at a vintage shop. And this little tea cup is perfect to hold a couple of cute polishes.

Cute storage ideas right??? I can't wait to finish it. I'm sure it will change often because styling can never really be done ; )

Sooo glad the weekend's here! You can't even imagine my week(s). Grumpy son, sick husband...and I won't even get into what I'm going through with my eleven year old, SMH. I'll just say I didn't start mine until I was 13...........so yes, feel bad for me. Please, LOL

Anyway, after six full months in our house, the last box in our bedroom went out just last week. Terrible! I know, lol

We finally decided that my yellow dresser would indeed serve as the TV stand and not my vanity : ( It was really really cute as my vanity though. Here are some pretty shots from my instagram.

So we ditched the big, old TV and put it in the play room because I really do kind of love it. And let's be honest, the kids would be better off with an old, big, sturdy TV down there, lol. As in something they can't break!!!

So here she is...

I still need to something with the space to the left though...something really pretty since he stole my vanity ; )

Our little charcoal love seat arrived two nights ago, and I really like it. It has a tendency to look a little green though : /

Only a few things left to do and our love nest will finally be complete! Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Yesterday was my Miona's birthday

She got new kicks and she is in love love love with them! She & Kevin cut the cake as soon as we got it home, lol...meaning before we could even sing happy birthday to her, smh. Mason just loved singing to her!

I felt so cute wearing my new bracelets while running birthday errands : )

I also picked up some cute new sun glasses from target. I think I'm going to go back & get the red ones too. They helped me out so much! Between the sun and all the bright snow, I can't see a thing when I'm driving!

This is so good.

This is a mixture of a few different recipes I've tried over the years. Kevin and I finally got the recipe down just how we like it.

Homemade Alfredo (sauce):

3 cups shredded parmesan cheese

2.5 cups heavy cream

8 tbsp butter (1 stick)

1/4 cup lemon juice

1 tsp lemon zest

pinch of salt & black pepper to taste

red pepper flakes to taste

-warm heavy cream, lemon juice, & butter in a pan until the butter is melted

-add salt& black pepper and stir until mixture thickens (maybe 6-10 minutes???)

-turn off heat, stir in parmesan cheese, & add lemon zest

-immediately toss in hot pasta & add red pepper flakes if desired

I ate mine with sauteed mushrooms. It was awesome.

I have been meaning to do post after post, but we've been so busy around here it's almost unreal!!! So anyway...here's what I've been up to.

She absolutely loved it! Now she won't take them down, lol

my Kevin surprised me with little gifts for two whole weeks!!! And I finally got my pink heart pillow!!! I think I may go grab another one since they're probably on clearance by now ; )

This is an old vanilla bottle I found for $1. I Love Love Love it. I kind of have a thing for old bottles & such. Don't we all though? No? Ah, well. ; )

Kevin got these blue pumps for me for Valentine's Day in 2009 while I was sickly & bedridden due to pregnancy with my Mason. I've worn them once. I really love them though. Maybe they should make a 2013 vday appearance??? Jewels can be found here : )

Afternoon all! I have been a seriously busy bee (literally) for the last few days. We got a bit of a blizzard so school was canceled today, and I couldn't be happier. I kind of love when my Miona stays home ; )

Her room is finally finished but I haven't gotten a chance to take any pictures : / Except for these of her 'office', LOL

She and I also made some really cute heart magnets for her dry erase board. I made these a while ago, but I think the new ones are my favorite.

Just place some 3D glitter heart stickers onto magnetic tape, and carefully cut them out!

It's seriously that easy, and they're so cute!

Evening everyone! Hope your Tuesday's going well : )

While doing some grocery shopping today, I heard a lady complaining about how expensive nail polish was. She was eyeing an Essie polish...which was $8. Per bottle. I guess Essie's the trend now...I don't know. But I have seen a lot of people posting pictures of their $8 bottles. Now I guess this is cheap considering how much a 'professional' polish would be. In most salons a polish change alone is $12-$18. Seriously. I know this because I've worked in a few salons that charged it! But the truth is, you don't have to spend that much on a bottle of nail polish. There are plenty of nice brands that are cheaper, with the same result.

Sinful is a nice brand that I've used for a long time. I posted a little bit about it here. They're like $2 and you can find them everywhere.

I've always liked Sally Hansen. They have really good, inexpensive products across the board. I had been searching for a true lavender polish and found this one & the cute glitter for under $5...for both!

AND it dried really quickly even without a topcoat!

I recently discovered Rimmel polish, but they're really nice too.

This is a horrible photo, but I really love this polish. It has a wider brush than usual for better coverage, and again, it was about $2/bottle.

I always use seche vite top coat. It's one of the best top coats I've ever used. I loved it when I worked in the salon, and I love it now. It dries fast and leaves an amazing shine on your nails! Hope this info helped : )
